The homes of prominent convention attendees are indicated by the brown icon. Click on the arrow to reveal more about residents by city and state.<\/p>\n<p>These maps aim to provide a picture &#8212; albeit incomplete &#8212; of mobility and travel during the conventions movement. The attendees included in the maps are chosen from a list of delegates gathered from the official convention proceedings. For this project, maps were only chosen of delegates listed in convention proceedings with a home address provided. Given the methodology, these visualizations do not capture a comprehensive representation of those who participated in the Colored Conventions &#8212; many more attended. Despite such limitations, these maps prompt visitors to think about the distances people traveled to participate in conventions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Researched and written by<\/strong> Anna Lacy.
