Black women and Black women\u2019s organizations have a long history of arguing for equal representation in politics and the right to vote. This gallery highlights many of the organizations, movements, and suffragettes of the 19th and 20th century that focused on gender equality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite voting and civil rights wins, there have been concerted efforts to limit access to suffrage as well as political and social equality. The struggle for suffrage and civil rights have led to many successes! This gallery depicts attempts to limit voting rights, and successful campaigns to secure those rights.<\/span><\/p>\n
