More on Modules

While the steps to access a module’s settings are the same regardless of its type, the settings vary from module to module. This page details each module’s settings, explaining how to add content to each. For quick reference, click the modules name from the toggle menu below to jump to its section.

Text (and Image) Module

This module’s settings act like a basic word processor, much like Google Docs. There are two basic types of content that belong in this module: text and images.

Working with Text

Text Style

One of the more important options to pay attention to, the text style menu is found at the top left of the editor’s toolbar.

You will work with two styles of text: Paragraph for body text, and Heading 2 for headers.

Spacing and Lists

You can work with two types of lists, bulleted lists, and numbered lists. Hit either list button to begin a list.

When working with a list, hit “Enter” to begin the next list item. Press “Shift + Enter” to add another line to the current list item. (This breaks the line without going to the next list item).

Blockquotes

You may find yourself with large walls of text. It may help to break up the text with blockquotes.

A blockquote isolates a selection of text, highlighting it on the page.

Highlight the text you wish to make into a blockquote, and then hit the quotation button.

Once you’ve added and formatted your text, you can begin to add in the images you wish to use. The next few sections cover the process of working with images.

Getting Started with Images

CCP Core Media Requirements
Adding Images to the Media Library

Go to the “Media” menu option on the dashboard, and select the “Add New” option.

Upload the images you wish to include in the exhibit, and then click the “Edit” button next to the first image.

Give the image the correct title. (The default is the file name). File names are very important for the long-term health of the images and documents.

Please see CCP’s requirements for file names.

Fill out the caption with the citation for the image. Then, fill out the the alt-text field. Use simple, descriptive language. Like “Black and white photograph of Sarah Loguen.” When finished, hit the “Update” button.

Repeat these steps for each image you uploaded.

Image Options

Image Alignment Options

How you want an image to appear on the page will determine how you format it inline with the text. These formatting options are crucial to understand before adding your images.

Left and Right Aligned

Text will always wrap around left or right aligned images, regardless of the amount of space available. This can look awkward if you are not mindful of image sizes. For this reason, images you wish to wrap inline with text should be no more than 400px in width (it is also suggested, but not required, that these images be no greater than 800px in height).

Center Aligned

Text will never wrap around center aligned images. These images will always occupy the entire line they are placed on.

Alignment None

This final option will place the image as though it is left aligned, however, text will never wrap around it. This is useful if you want an image to not only sit between two blocks of text but to also retain its left alignment.

Image Size and Link Options

Size Options

The size options allow you to keep large images on WordPress, while displaying smaller versions on your exhibit page.

Full Size images will display at there uploaded size.

Medium images will display at [insert size here].

Thumbnail images will display at [insert size here].

Link Options

How the image behaves when clicked is determined by the link option you select.

Attachment Page redirects the user to the image’s attachment page when the image is clicked.

Media File is the suggested link type, as it opens the full-size image.

None will eliminate any kind of behavior when the image is hovered over or clicked on.

Working with Images

Adding Images Inline with Text

In the text editor, press the “Add Media” button.

This opens your Media Library in a pop-up window. Click the image you wish to include to open its Attachment Details panel on the right.

Select the appropriate settings to display your image, and finally, click the blue “Select” button below the Attachment Display Settings.

Headers and the Toggle Module

Like the Text (and Image) module, The Section Header, the Section Subheader, and the Toggle modules are text modules. Adding content to any of these follows the same process and principles.
