Associated Women

The 1855 National Colored Convention was mostly composed of men. However, their wives, daughters, and sisters were well aware of the political activities the men were engaged in. Women attended conventions, helped to organize them, and they worked behind the scenes. Those who were not able to attend ensured that they were informed of the convention proceedings and discussed them among their peers.
